JOHN DYCE ANNOUNCES PLATFORM FOR DISTRICT 5 STATE REPRESENTATIVE CAMPAIGN
Guilford Lake resident John Dyce filed last week to run as the Democratic candidate for the State Representative of District 5 and is excited to share his goals for moving our community forward.
Dyce will formally present his campaign platform and announce his candidacy on February 13 at 5:30 p.m. at the Columbiana County Career & Technical Center.
If I am elected to represent the people of Columbiana County, one of my primary goals will be to address the opioid crisis, as it has impacted our community for too many years. The Columbus Dispatch recently reported that Ohio’s drug overdose deaths rose 39 percent between 2016 and 2017. We need solutions, not failed campaign sound bites! Mr. Ginter said in September of 2016 during a community meeting on the opioid crisis that he wanted action. What has he done since then? I will work to create a partnership between state and local officials and business leaders. The partnership will work to curtail illegal drug sales, while creating programs to return those addicted to being productive members of the community.
We need to address the drastic cuts in Local Government Funds. The cuts we’ve experienced over the last several years have negatively impacted every service the people of Columbiana County expect and depend upon such as our Police, Fire, and Ambulance Service, as well as our roads, bridges, and other infrastructure.
The drastic cuts in Local Government Funds were a part of the supposed state tax cuts by the Republicans in control for the last 4 years. In reality, those state tax cuts were nothing more than sleight of hand. The tax cuts were paid for by the reduction in Local Government Funds to our cities and villages. Many attempted to live within the cuts, but once they realized it wasn’t possible, local tax levies were put on the ballot. I will call for a review of our entire state tax structure to identify areas that it would be possible to make reforms that would benefit all Ohioans.
We need to repair and strengthen our infrastructure in Columbiana County. Our roads, bridges, water and sewage systems are aging and in need of repair or replacement. While the unemployment rate has dropped recently, many people are working part-time jobs, multiple jobs, or have long commutes in order to get to work. While in office, I will work to pass legislation that will rebuild our infrastructure while also creating local jobs, helping local businesses, and strengthening our economy.
We need to pass ‘Buy Ohio’ legislation. Its passing would give Ohio firms priority in the awarding of state contracts for goods and services. Supporting Ohio’s businesses is crucial to improving our economy.
